School District of Washburn Voters Approve Referendum Question
Area residents vote to support building updates to the Middle/High School
Washburn, WI—On November 5, voters in the School District of Washburn voted to support a
$14.43 million capital referendum, aimed to maintain and upgrade building systems and to
enhance accessibility and security at the Middle/High School building. These building
improvements will not only meet immediate capital needs but also contribute to a healthier, more
sustainable environment for our students and staff.
Preliminary results indicated 67% of voters did support the facilities referendum question, while
33% were not in favor.
The School District of Washburn extends its overwhelming gratitude to all community members
who participated in the recent referendum and ultimately supported critical capital maintenance
and security needs of the school. We greatly respect the community’s unwavering support of the
School District of Washburn and their dedication to lifting up our students.
The essential needs outlined in the referendum, upgrading critical building systems and
improving security and accessibility, will impact all students and staff within the Middle/High
school building and for future Castle Guards.
Next, the design phase will begin, continuing for approximately nine months and involving
ongoing conversations with staff, student groups and community members to ensure the project
goals are aligned. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026, with a thoughtful phasing
plan allowing the district to minimize classroom disruption, maintain educational focus, and
elevate the needs of students and staff.
